The World Service Business Conference has entrusted the Board of Trustees with the primary responsibility for the administration of Overeaters Anonymous. – Spiritual Principal: Responsibility Concept 6
What exactly is administration? Sounds important, doesn’t it? Administration is the management, supervision, and organization of people, affairs, or resources to accomplish objectives. Well, that sounds pretty simple to me!
In OA, within our inverted triangle structure, the Board of Trustees do have the primary responsibility for administration of OA. Together, each Trustee has certain responsibilities that oversees the finer details of the operations of OA. Only makes sense that members who have been voted in by its membership have that experience and are able to handle the administrative work of OA.
When I think of how each one of us, as we learn how our group functions, we take on responsibilities within our groups and we learn. I can do this within my family, with my children.
At some point in our groups, some begin work above the group level. We continue in that process of learning. We help each other. We take on difference service roles and responsibilities. What a wonderful way we can learn in a safe atmosphere and gain the experience in the process. We learn the spiritual principle of responsibility at every level. Do I not do the same within my own family or work?
I know in whatever part of my life that I have put myself into a position of learning, I can be a responsible human being in whatever I do. Step 5 I started to take responsibility in telling myself, God and another human being the exact nature of my wrongs. It taught me of integrity; to stand up and do what’s right! In taking it a step further and getting into active service, I learned I have a primary purpose through tradition 5… to help another fellow sufferer (Step 12) Taking on responsibilities comes as a result of practising the Steps, Traditions and Concepts; the principles become a part of me. I can practice these principles in ALL my affairs.
Amazing how a Concept of what feels all business like, can really be very simple and practised in our everyday life. With integrity and purpose we can be responsible in service wherever we are planted!
