Rozanne’s Prayer

Rozanne S., the founder of Overeaters Anonymous (OA), began her journey to help others in 1958 after attending a Gamblers Anonymous meeting and recognizing her own struggle with compulsive overeating. Born in 1929 in Milwaukee, she battled low self-esteem and food-related issues throughout her life, despite professional success in advertising and writing.

In 1960, Rozanne started OA with two friends, modeling it after Alcoholics Anonymous and embracing its Twelve Steps and Traditions. Her leadership, vision, and dedication helped OA grow from a small home group to an international organization offering hope and recovery to thousands.

Rozanne was instrumental in expanding OA’s outreach, promoting inclusivity (notably overturning a ban on men), organizing conferences, and creating foundational literature and media. She served in various leadership roles and remained committed to OA for over five decades.

Rozanne passed away after 54 years of service, leaving behind a powerful legacy of compassion, recovery, and inspiration for those battling compulsive eating.
