Why I Write (and Why You Can Too)

fountain pen writing on a paper

I used to be a terrible, fearful writer. So much so, I went to law school with one specific goal: to improve something I felt weak in. Over time, I became a good writer. But like most things, writing requires practice—and when I chose not to become a lawyer, I mostly stopped writing.

Years later, something changed. I started using ChatGPT to help organize and express my thoughts. It’s been an incredible tool—not to replace my voice, but to help me shape it. I’m sharing this not because my story is special, but to say: if writing feels hard, that’s okay. Start anyway. Take five or ten minutes to jot down a thought or reflection—something meaningful, something honest. Use AI, a notebook, a napkin —whatever gets the words flowing.

And then, share it. Send it to the ESH Newsletter.

Why? Because someone out there needs to hear what only you can say. Whether it’s a reflection on a Step, a struggle with food, a spiritual awakening, or a quote that changed your life—your voice matters.

Today, I understand that submitting to ESH is not about getting it perfect. It’s not about me. It’s about service which ultimately helps me and others. It’s about choosing connection over isolation. It’s about offering something that might help someone else—just like what happens in meetings.

We walk in each other’s footsteps. Our stories light the path.

So whether it’s your first time writing or your hundredth, whether you craft it solo or use tools like ChatGPT, please consider sharing your experience, strength, and hope. With HP’s help—and maybe a little help from AI—something beautiful can come through.
