Question of the Month

Sponsorship is essential to my recovery. I learned very early on in my recovery that if i didn’t sponsor, or didn’t have a sponsor I was depriving not only myself from recovery, I was also depriving my fellows from potential recovery that my sponsorship might have offered them. It is my responsibility to myself and to others to ensure I use all the tools of this program so that I can truly blossom within my fellowship. ðŸŒ»

Sponsorship helps me in two ways. As a sponsee I am provided with many decades of ESH when I contact and discuss issues with my sponsor. When I sponsor, I am reminded of the path I have trodden. This can shine a light on areas where I need to focus my program.

Sponsorship is key to my recovery! As a sponsee it helped me recover, and as a sponsor it keeps me abstinent. I often say that it’s the blind leading the blind, but somehow it works. When I sponsor, I am working the steps all over again. There is always something new to learn, and my sponsees help me as much as I help them. Yes, I am a few steps ahead of them in the program, but they also have so many insights that help me in my own working of the program.

Sponsorship impacts my recovery in many ways. My sponsor showed me how to work the steps. She  gives her experience, strength, and a whole lot of hope. She helps me to process my 10th steps so that I can remain free of resentments, make amends when I need to, and stay abstinent.

Being a sponsor is also, an important part of my journey. As I go over the literature with my sponsees, It keeps me fresh, and the repetition is helpful to my learning process. As I share about the unmanageability of my life and the hopelessness when I came into the room, it reminds me to stay in the solution. I am grateful for both my sponsor and my sponsees!
