Concept Eight

Concept Eight: The Board of Trustees has delegated to its Executive Committee the responsibility to administer to the OA World Service Office.
Principle: Delegation

  • Finances, pricing products and managing the human resources of the World Service office has been delegated to the Executive Committee, which is a subgroup elected by the Board of Trustees. They meet regularly to handle business matters and report back to the Board of Trustees.
  • A skilled and experienced managing director of the World Service Office, who is listed as the corporation secretary in the Bylaws, oversees the day-to-day operations. They attend all Board of Trustee and Executive Committee meetings, but do not have a vote on matters. Their role is to offer information and assistance.
  • Special workers, employees, including the managing director, are not required to be members of the fellowship of Overeaters Anonymous as long as they are well-versed in the principles of the program.
  • When the Trustees make a decision, the staff are then tasked with accomplishing those projects.
  • Meeting monthly, the Executive Committee, working alongside the staff and managing director, oversees all operations of Overeaters Anonymous including the budget, prudent reserve, investments, audits, legal issues and pricing of products.
  • OA World Service staff provide services by registering groups, answering inquiries, maintaining a website and providing world-wide information on meetings, publishing OA Literature and other items, updating a newsletter, and other day to day functions. Matters relating to traditions, personal recovery or group issues are referred to the Trustees.
