“Love and revere God, love and revere self, love and revere others, love and revere space and time. Refuse to be seduced by things which do not bring lasting joy.” -Debbie L.
What an incredible mantra shared with me by one of my fellows. I am in awe at the clear message of Self-Love in this statement. To love, to revere all things! My higher power, myself, those around me, and space and time itself! Refusing to be seduced by anything that does not bring me lasting joy and happiness.
And easily seduced, I was! Deep into the food, I reveled in my resentment! Pain and misery were my constant companions. I didn’t know there could be any other way to live this life. And the more I believed it, the more it was true for me.
Then, I discovered OA. I found a new way of being in this world. I discovered a pathway of recovery through the Steps that helped strip away the suffering, the resentments that I had held onto so tightly for so long. I began to experience a little bubble of joy in my heart that only grew and grew. I am not saying that all my days feel great, but every single day, even despite the challenges, offers me lasting joy, as long as I keep my sights on what my Higher Power wants for me… Refusing to be seduced by the food that held me captive all those years ago.
